Cooking With Shirataki Noodles

The Guiltless Low Carb Noodle Paradise

Talking with my friends who live a low carb lifestyle recently gave me some great insight on using Shirataki noodles in my diet. These low carb noodles are very good but also very different from other noodles you might have in your diet or have cooked with in the past.

These healthy, yam based noodles are very high in dietary fiber. Most Shirataki noodles are high in calcium and are very low on the glycemic index. And, because they are sugar free, they are a great addition to the diet of someone who is diabetic.

Almost all Shirataki noodles are shipped pre-cooked. There has been talk of people boiling the noodles before consumption, but that is simply not necessary. It is necessary however to rinse the noodles for a minute or two before adding them to your dish.

Shirataki noodles are by themselves pretty much tasteless. They have the ability though to pick up the flavor of whatever they are added to. Because of this, many people add the noodles to a sauce or dish while the food is being prepared. This allows the noodles to fully absorb the flavor of the dish.

Because the noodles have low (sometimes zero) calories, carbs, and fat, they are an amazing and guiltless addition to so many dishes. The idea of having a heaping pile of noodles and a chicken breast with extremely low carbs seems almost impossible, but with Shirataki noodles but it isn't. Stir fried veggies and noodles all of the sudden becomes a intriguing meal for the health conscious eater.

Try adding Shirataki noodles to some of your dishes for a low carb meal that is sure to please.
