Many people email me to ask what it was like when I was on my Shirataki noodle diet. I guess most people assume that because of the word diet, it has to be this painstaking process. Well, for me it just wasn't...
When I went on my Shirataki noodle diet, I simply decided that I wouldn't change a whole lot about the types of meals I normally eat. You see, I am a noodle lover! I have always had noodles about two or three times a week. Whether it was spaghetti or Asian noodles I simply loved the taste and texture of noodles. So, the idea of going on a low carb diet always scared me because I thought I would have to make drastic changes to my daily eating routine. Shirataki noodles changed that perception forever.
When I first learned of Shirataki noodles, I was extremely skeptical. Low-Carb noodles I thought? Really? But, I figured it was worth a try.....so I did. Now, they do take some getting used to and they aren't just as good a normal noodles. But, the fact that you can have a whole huge bowl of them and still lose weight is incredible to me. Once I tried them and realized they weren't half bad, I was hooked. That is when I decided to give the Shirataki noodle diet a try.
I simply started swapping Shirataki noodles for whatever noodles my favorite recipes called for. I made noodles and Italian red sauce with Shirataki noodles on Sundays. During the week I would have noodle soup made with them. I love all sorts of Asian dishes and the options for that are endless. I was the guy having noodles all week and losing weight. My friends thought I was crazy until they started coming over for dinner. They couldn't believe how good the food was. When I told them how low in calories, carbs and fat the meals were they thought I was even more crazy....lol.
Soon I had lost a good amount of weight. I had started jogging and lifting some weights as well. Pretty soon it became less like a diet and more like a lifestyle. Now I just eat Shirataki noodles a couple nights a week and I am keeping the weight off. This minor adjustment in my eating habit has paid off huge for me. I love the way I look and it wasn't even a sacrifice.
I would also like to say that about the time I was meeting my weight goal I discovered that there are more kinds of Shirataki noodles than I had thought. I discovered that there were some that had tofu flour mixed in with the yam flour they use to make Shirataki noodles. These are awesome and are a nice change to the regular noodles. I now eat this variety about half the time and they are great tasting. As a side note, there is a variety of Shirataki noodles that comes with sea weed mixed in....these taste a little fishy to me. I prefer that the noodles I eat taste pretty plain because I like to just add them into the dishes I would normally cook.
If you are curious about the Shirataki noodle diet I think you should give it a try. Eat them with veggies and your favorite protein and you will love it! It truly isn't like a diet at all.
